Some Labour Party (LP) members in Kaduna joined their counterparts in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to welcome back Dr Tajudeen Abbas to the state on Saturday, July 15, 2023.
Dr Abbas was recently elected as the Speaker of the House of Representatives in a landslide victory.
His visit to his home state was the first after his election, which also produced Honourable Benjamin Kalu from Abia state as his deputy.
He also attended a stakeholders’ meeting alongside Hon Kalu as part of his visit to his Federal Constituency.
The Emir of Zazzau, His Royal Highness, Amb. Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli also received the Speaker and his entourage at his palace.
The Speaker is a famous political figure in the northwest state, primarily because of his antecedents as a grassroots politician and his status as a traditional title holder in the Zazzau Emirate in Zaria.
Several LP members joined their APC counterparts to welcome Abbass at the Air Force base in Kaduna.
Recall that two members of the House of Representatives from Kaduna state are members of the LP, and they supported Abbas before he was elected the leader of the green chambers.
Videos posted by the Speaker’s official Twitter handle also showed school children lined up on major roads waving at Abbas convoy as it made its way into Zaria town.
Writing on his Twitter page, Speaker Abbas said:
“Gratitude to Almighty Allah for a successful homecoming after my emergence as Speaker on June 13, 2023.
”Being at home and interacting directly with my constituents is an opportunity I will forever cherish and one that will consistently be repeated.”
