In a crucial advisory issued on Sunday, September 3, the spokesman of the Lagos police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, raised alarm bells over the rampant and potentially dangerous installations of gas carburettors in power generators throughout the state.
The police spokesman highlighted significant safety concerns stemming from improper installations, urging residents to prioritize safety above all else.
He noted that in recent times, a growing number of Lagosians have been opting to convert their power generators to use gas instead of traditional petrol.
While the switch offers cost-efficiency and environmental benefits, concerns have emerged regarding installation methods.
His words:
”Many Lagosians installed gas carburettors in their power-generating sets to enable them use gas in place of petrol. Most did the installation by themselves or engaged the services of non-qualified technicians.
”To AVOID FIRE OUTBREAKS, kindly engage a qualified technician to inspect the installation and certify it fit for use.
”This advisory is based on genuine surveys and concerns from experts who know better. A stitch in time saves nine. And prevention is far better than cure.”
SP Hundeyin’s advisory underscores the alarming fact that many residents have taken it upon themselves to perform these installations or have enlisted the services of non-qualified technicians.
In response to the advisory, residents are encouraged to take immediate action to ensure the safety of their gas carburettor installations.
