The Governor of Lagos State, Jide Sanwo-Olu, today presented the 2026 Budget Estimates totalling ₦4.2 trillion to the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Dubbed “The Budget of Shared Prosperity,” the proposal reflects the state’s continued commitment to comprehensive development across all sectors.
The budget maintains a strong emphasis on capital projects, with ₦2.2 trillion (52%) allocated to capital expenditure and ₦2 trillion (48%) earmarked for recurrent spending.
This capital-intensive approach signals the government’s focus on long-term infrastructure development and economic expansion.
Economic Affairs emerged as the largest beneficiary in the sectoral allocations, receiving ₦1.47 trillion for infrastructure, agriculture, and related projects. The health sector follows with ₦338 billion, while education received ₦249 billion, underscoring the administration’s priorities in human capital development.
Other significant allocations include ₦235 billion for environmental management, ₦147 billion for public order and safety, and ₦123 billion for housing initiatives. The social protection and recreation sectors received ₦70 billion and ₦54 billion, respectively.
Governor Sanwo-Olu anchored the 2026 budget on four strategic pillars: Human-Centric City, Modern Infrastructure, Thriving Economy, and Effective Governance. These align with the evolved T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda and the Parastatal Monitoring Framework.
The presentation comes as the state reports strong fiscal performance, with the 2025 budget achieving 81% implementation as of September 30, 2025, demonstrating effective budget execution and management.
