The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the potential of the state’s waterways to boost water tourism.
This was announced by the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, during the ‘Fuji Fusion Lori Omi’ event, held on the MV Adimu Orisha Barge and organized by the Lagos Ferry Services (LAGFERRY).
Benson-Awoyinka highlighted that the state government’s efforts are geared towards boosting the local economy, creating employment opportunities, and attracting both domestic and international tourists.
She stated, “Hosting an event of this magnitude with the assemblage of top Nigerian Fuji artists like Pasuma, Malaika, and Atawewe on the waterways aligns with the Lagos State government’s vision of promoting the state as a prime tourist destination in Nigeria.”
Ladi Balogun, Managing Director of LAGFERRY, emphasized that featuring renowned Fuji musicians underscores Lagos’s status as a hub for entertainment and tourism.
He praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for creating an enabling environment for stakeholders to explore various opportunities within the state’s blue economy.
“LAGFERRY is utilizing a tripod approach of transportation, tourism, and entertainment to maximize the benefits of our waterways,” Balogun added.
Balogun assured that the agency will focus on improving the passenger experience by ensuring safety, comfort, and efficiency on its boats.
He also noted that LAGFERRY aims to provide tourists with a unique and enjoyable way to experience several iconic landmarks in Lagos, such as the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, Eko Atlantic City, and Tarkwa Bay, while also helping to decongest the city’s roads.
The General Manager of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Damilola Emmanuel, reassured Lagosians of their safety on the waterways.
He highlighted LASWA’s efforts to ensure safety through sensitization programs, partnerships, and providing safety infrastructure.
The ‘Fuji Fusion Lori Omi’ event drew attendees from various walks of life and featured performances by Fuji music giants such as Pasuma Wonder, Malaika, and Atawewe, along with Biyi Omo Mummy and Mr. Performer.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government announced the creation of the Cybersecurity Operations Centre, which will act as the central location for real-time monitoring, detection, and response to cyber threats in the state.
This state-of-the-art facility was unveiled recently by Olatunbosun Alake, the Honourable Commissioner for Science, Innovation and Technology, during the Year 2024 Ministerial Press Briefing.
Alake said the facility is expected to serve as the central hub for real-time state surveillance, detection, and response to cyber threats.
