In a significant stride towards environmental sustainability, Lagos State’s initiatives unveiled at the 28th session of the Conference of Parties (COP28) in Dubai have piqued the interest of global investors.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced that two pioneering projects, the Advanced Garbage Collection and Waste-to-Energy initiative, alongside plans for a new Sewage Treatment Plant, have captured substantial attention and interest from potential investors at the international climate summit.
Presenting Phase Two of the Lagos State Climate Adaptation and Resilience Plan (LCARP), Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated the administration’s unwavering commitment to bolstering environmental resilience in Lagos.
Emphasizing collaboration as a cornerstone of Lagos’s engagement at COP28, Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted the critical role of partnerships in addressing the collective challenge of climate change.
He said the LCARP acts as a strategic guidepost, outlining an ambitious roster of 30 projects spanning crucial sectors like transportation, renewable energy, and waste management, with 14 projects earmarked for Public-Private Partnerships.
Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the proactive approach of Lagos State in seeking collaborations with potential partners to actualize the visionary environmental goals.
”We understand the importance of collaboration, and we are actively engaging with potential partners to ensure their involvement in bringing our plans to fruition. We are ready to take the lead and have developed a clear strategy to achieve our climate mitigation objectives.
”The success of Lagos on this journey will not only be a success for Nigeria but also an inspiring story of achievement for Africa and the world,” he added.
