Telegram’s Wallet app has updated its policies to allow law enforcement agencies to collect evidence as part of ongoing investigations.
According to the app’s updated FAQ page, law enforcement can now submit verified requests for information through a designated email.
Telegram Wallet, a crypto wallet built within Telegram’s ecosystem, will review each request carefully and cooperate in compliance with internal policies and relevant laws.
Although Telegram does not directly operate the Wallet app, the update aligns with broader changes to the platform’s privacy policies.
In September, Telegram began enhancing its privacy controls globally, signalling a shift in its approach to handling law enforcement requests.
CEO Pavel Durov acknowledged that Telegram has shared the IP addresses of criminals with authorities since 2018, but recent updates reflect a more proactive stance.
This change also comes as Wallet developers tighten features for UK users while seeking registration with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
Despite these restrictions, UK users can still withdraw funds without fees.
Meanwhile, Telegram is also introducing AI-driven moderation tools to identify harmful content, stepping up efforts to comply with legal demands across different regions.
These moves come after Durov faced scrutiny in France for Telegram’s moderation policies and data-sharing practices, marking a significant step toward more transparent cooperation with law enforcement worldwide.
