Preparations are accelerating for what promises to be the most expansive FIFA World Cup tournament in the competition’s history.

Set to take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico in 2026, this edition will showcase an unprecedented 48 participating nations, representing a significant increase from the current 32-team format.

The tri-national hosting arrangement automatically grants the USA, Mexico, and Canada entry into the tournament, marking the first time these three countries will share hosting duties for football’s premier global event.

As qualifying campaigns progress worldwide, numerous countries have already earned their spots in the expanded tournament field, while additional nations remain in contention as regional competitions approach their conclusions.

Current Qualified Nations for the 2026 World Cup

Asian Football Confederation (AFC)

Japan – Became the inaugural Asian qualifier on March 20, 2025, leading the continental qualification process.

Iran confirmed their tournament participation five days later on March 25, 2025.

Uzbekistan – Achieved a historic milestone by earning their maiden World Cup appearance on June 5, 2025.

South Korea secured their tournament slot on the same date, June 5, 2025.

Australia – Validated their tournament entry on June 10, 2025.

South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL)

Brazil – The quintet of World Cup champions preserved their unblemished qualifying tradition by securing their position on June 10, 2025, following a narrow 1-0 triumph over Paraguay in São Paulo, with Vinicius Jr. providing the decisive strike.

Ecuador – Joined their continental neighbours in qualifying on June 10, 2025.

Oceania Football Confederation (OFC)

New Zealand- Earned their World Cup berth by capturing the Oceania championship on March 24, 2025.

Host Nations:

United States

Canada

Mexico

Regional qualifying tournaments continue across various confederations, with additional nations anticipated to confirm their World Cup participation as competitions reach their decisive phases in the approaching weeks.
