Liverpool Football Club have been eliminated from the UEFA Champions League by defending champions Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) after a 2-0 (4-0 aggregate) defeat at Anfield on Tuesday night, news.ng reports.
Liverpool came into this match with a two-goal deficit from the first leg but failed to live up to expectations after 90 minutes of action.
Meanwhile, PSG took advantage of a rather poor Liverpool side, as the 2025 Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele found the back of the net twice in the 72nd and 90+1st minutes, giving his side the victory—a repeat of last week’s result.
Elsewhere, Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres’ goals in the 4th and 24th minutes were not enough to take Barcelona into the semi-final, following Ademola Lookman’s 31st-minute goal for Atlético Madrid, which sent Barça packing after the scoreline stood at 2-1 (3-2 aggregate) in favour of Atlético Madrid.
Recall that last week, Atléti had a two-goal advantage. Despite Barcelona winning the game 2-1, they needed two more goals to cancel out their opponent’s one goal.
Both PSG and Atlético Madrid’s next opponents will be decided after the encounters between Arsenal vs Sporting CP at the Emirates Stadium and FC Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid at the Allianz Arena in Munich tomorrow night.
