A Lagos-based man is currently writhing in pain at the Igbobi Orthopaedic Hospital after he jumped off a bridge to escape phone robbers.

A cinematographer, Emmanuel Olabode, disclosed via his Twitter handle that the incident occurred at night on Otedola bridge on Wednesday, October 12.

Olabode explained that when the robbers accosted the man, he decided to protect his phone by jumping the bridge to escape but suffered severe injuries after he landed.

“This guy jumped off Otedola bridge because he didn’t want to part with his phone when robbers crossed him last night.” He broke a leg and was rushed to emergency before being transferred to Igbobi. The first bill just came in-1.2 million. Plus, he’s in severe pain. “Sigh,” Olabode tweeted.

Nigerians who reacted to the story faulted the man for risking his life to save his phone.

@AzizBatch said: “He took a gamble on landing safely but it didn’t work out”

Another user, @_chukwubuzor, said: “It’s not even about the money. The pains he would be going through. “

Other social media users warned residents of Lagos to be weary of Otedola Bridge, stating that the rate of robberies along that axis has increased.
