English Premier League (EPL) side Manchester United has sacked their Dutch coach Eric Ten Hag after his team’s 1-2 loss to rivals West Ham on Sunday.
Less than twenty-four hours after the team’s Sunday afternoon loss to West Ham at the London Stadium, the club’s board notified the Dutchman of the decision on Monday morning.
After United defeated Manchester City in the FA Cup final in May, the club extended Ten Hag’s contract for another year. However, he was fired three months later for leading United to their second-worst Premier League start.
“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future,” the club said. “Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited.”
Having drawn its first three games, Manchester United, which is ranked 21st out of 36 clubs in the Europa League standings, has appointed Ruud van Nistelrooy, who joined the team last summer as Ten Hag’s assistant, as its interim manager.
