According to a statement released by Meta on Sunday, the social network Threads currently boasts 275 million monthly active users (MAUs).
Adam Mosseri, the head of both Threads and Instagram confirmed the development on his official Threads page.
Following Elon Musk’s contentious takeover of X, Threads has drawn a sizable user base since its July 2023 launch, especially those looking for alternatives to X.
By August, Threads had expanded to 200 million monthly active users, having first reached the 150 million user milestone in April.
“Yesterday we crossed 275M monthly active users on @Threads. A big thank you to everyone who’s helped us get this far. There’s a lot more to do and plenty of things to fix, but there’s something exciting about this place,” Mosseri.
In April, Threads reached the milestone of 150 million users; by August, the site had reached 200 million monthly active users.
Threads was launched as an alternative to X (previously Twitter) in response to the platform’s restructuring under Elon Musk’s ownership, and it has quickly risen to become a dominant participant in the text-based social media world.
Its initial introduction attracted a large number of users, and succeeding months have further increased its popularity.
Strong user engagement and retention growth over the last three months has added 75 million new members, demonstrating Threads’ popularity in the social networking sector.
We earlier reported that though there aren’t any monetisation tools available yet, Meta plans to add advertisements to its Threads platform by the end of 2024.
