Michelle Bond, who ran for Congress in 2022, is now facing legal troubles of her own.
The partner of former FTX executive Ryan Salame has been charged with multiple campaign finance violations, according to an indictment filed in the Southern District of New York.
Bond, who aimed for a seat in New York’s 1st Congressional District, is accused of conspiring to receive and accept illegal campaign contributions.
Authorities allege she and an unnamed co-conspirator, believed to be Salame, funnelled $400,000 into her campaign. This case includes charges of accepting excessive and unlawful corporate contributions and making false statements to conceal their actions.
Salame, who recently pleaded guilty to financial crimes and faces a 7.5-year prison sentence, had reportedly hoped Bond would avoid prosecution as part of his legal negotiations.
Despite these setbacks, Bond continues her work in the crypto sector, leading Capitol Advisory and pushing for favourable regulatory changes in digital finance.
