MicroStrategy CEO Michael Saylor has made a bold pitch to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, urging him to consider Bitcoin as a potential billion-dollar asset for the tech giant.
Saylor, known for his strong support of Bitcoin, recently tweeted at Nadella, saying, “If you want to make the next trillion dollars for $MSFT shareholders, call me.”
The timing of Saylor’s message is significant, coming just before a Dec. 10 shareholder vote on whether Microsoft should formally assess investing in Bitcoin.
While Saylor views Bitcoin as a high-growth opportunity, Microsoft’s board has advised shareholders to vote against the proposal, arguing that cryptocurrency risks don’t align with the company’s current investment strategy, which includes U.S. government securities and corporate bonds.
Microsoft currently holds between $75 billion and $104 billion in cash, mostly in low-risk investments.
Despite Saylor’s pitch highlighting Bitcoin’s recent growth—it’s surged over 95% in the past year, with a current market cap of around $1.3 trillion—Microsoft’s board remains wary of Bitcoin’s price volatility and stability.
As Microsoft’s board prioritizes stable assets to safeguard operations, Saylor suggests Bitcoin could offer inflation protection and serve as a powerful asset for future growth.
With MicroStrategy’s investment totalling nearly 214,000 Bitcoin, valued at around $7.4 billion, Saylor is no stranger to high-stakes Bitcoin investments.
