Celtic manager Martin O’Neill has ruled out Kelechi Iheanacho from his side’s Europa League clash against FC Midtjylland, confirming that the Nigerian striker is still not fully fit to return to action.

Iheanacho has been sidelined since October 23, when he sustained a muscle injury during Celtic’s 2–1 victory over Sturm Graz. The setback forced him to miss key fixtures against Hearts, Falkirk, and Rangers, as the club continues to manage his recovery carefully.

O’Neill: “Not Fit Enough”

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Wednesday, O’Neill delivered a brief but clear update on the Super Eagles forward’s condition.

“Not fit enough,” the Celtic boss stated when asked about Iheanacho’s availability for the trip to Denmark.

While fans had been hopeful after the player posted the club’s matchday graphics on social media, O’Neill’s comments confirmed that Iheanacho will play no part in Thursday’s fixture at the MCH Arena.

A Missed Presence for Celtic

Iheanacho’s absence will be a blow for the Hoops, who have relied heavily on his experience and attacking flair in European competition. The former Leicester City man has scored crucial goals for Celtic this season, forming a strong partnership in attack before his injury.

With Midtjylland known for their physical and direct style of play, O’Neill may turn to other options in the final third as Celtic aim to strengthen their position in Group B.

Return Timeline Unclear

The club’s medical staff are said to be taking a cautious approach with Iheanacho’s recovery to avoid any recurrence of the injury. A potential return date has not been set, though he is expected to undergo further assessment next week.
