Mikel Arteta, the coach of English Premier League (EPL) side Arsenal has confirmed that new signing Mikel Merino has sustained an injury which will keep him out of action for a few weeks.
The coach disclosed on Friday ahead of Saturday’s game against Brighton that Merino sustained a shoulder injury following a collision with Gabriel Magalhaes.
Arteta disclosed that Merino was excited and everything was looking good until he had a collision with Gabriel in training with an initial prognosis pointing to a shoulder fracture.

“Yes, very unfortunate. Yesterday he had a collision and he has a shoulder injury. It looks like he’s going to be out for a few weeks,” Arteta said.
“He was really excited and everything was looking really good. He landed on the floor and Gabi landed on top of him and it looks like he has a small fracture, probably.”
Merino officially moved to the Emirates this week on a deal worth €32 million in fixed fees, with €5 million add-ons and a contract until June 2028 plus an option for a further season.
