Former Chelsea FC and Super Eagles midfielder, John Mikel Obi has revealed behind-the-scenes moves to influence Victor Osimhen’s transfer from Napoli to Stamford Bridge.
The well-decorated retired football player opened up about his moves to broker Victor Osimhen’s transfer to Chelsea amid interests from other top European clubs during a recent interview with popular British sports commentator Ben Jacobs.
Mikel stated that he thinks there’s genuine interest between Chelsea and Osimhen, who helped Napoli clinch their first Scudetto in 33 years, scoring 26 goals in the Serie A.
He also added that Osimhen, who has also been courted by other clubs, including Arsenal FC, PSG, and Real Madrid, loves Chelsea and wants to come to the EPL.
“I’m still his agent, trying to get him to Chelsea, so I’ve got 20% of that deal; let’s hope it works out,” Mikel jokingly said on Ben Jacobs’ show.
“I think there’s genuine interest between Chelsea and Osimhen. I think Osimhen loves the club, and he wants to come to the club. Obviously, he wants to follow in my footsteps as a Nigerian player who has played for Chelsea.
“Aside from Victor Moses as well as Celestine Babayaro, not a lot of us played for Chelsea. He has looked at that. London is also a fantastic city; instead of going to Liverpool or places like that, you’d want to live in London.
“But he also has a lot of interests, like PSG and Manchester United, but I’m still pushing, and sending messages, trying to make sure that he doesn’t expect too much and just narrows his mind to one club, the Blues.
Osimhen, who has scored five goals and one assist for Napoli since his return from the African Cup of Nations staged in Cote d’Ivoire, is valued at around $130 million by his club.
