Troops fighting Boko Haram in the northeast has arrested a fake National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) official registering non-Nigerians for the country’s identity card at an internally displaced person camp in the Niger Republic.
The fake officials were arrested during a recent visit to the Gagamari IDP camp, said Musa Danmadami, the Director of Defence Media Operations.
“On October 13, 2022, troops in conjunction with the Nigeria Police and NIS operatives intercepted two suspected fake National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) officials. It was revealed that the suspects had visited Gagamari IDP camp in Niger Republic to register non-Nigerians in the IDP camp, “Danmadami said in a statement on Thursday, October 20.
Items recovered from the suspects include National Identification Number (NIN) registration machine, printing machine, laminating machine, a computer tracking machine and a generator set among other items.”
Danmadami further disclosed that air troops have neutralized 30 terrorists converging for a ceremony in Zammfara state.
He said the terrorists were killed during an airstrike on October 14 after an intelligence report of their planned meeting for a ceremony at the residence of one of their leaders, Lawali Gudau.
