In a bold step to reshape Nigeria’s international image, the Federal Government has launched a strategic partnership with the Nigeria Reputation Management Group (NRMG), aimed at rebranding the nation’s global perception.

Speaking at the official unveiling in Abuja, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, highlighted the importance of this initiative, which seeks to promote Nigeria’s true identity, achievements, and untapped potential.

Idris emphasized that this collaboration is geared towards amplifying Nigeria’s rich culture, economic successes, and contributions to global innovation.

“By leveraging the NRMG’s expertise, we aim to spotlight the authentic Nigerian narrative, celebrate our diversity, and position Nigeria as a global leader across various sectors,” the Minister said.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), will involve partnerships across government, private sectors, and civil society to foster unity and national pride.

Idris pointed out that while Nigeria is renowned for its music, fashion, and films, these elements only scratch the surface of the country’s vast cultural wealth, which will be further highlighted through this rebranding effort.

The Minister also touched on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s sweeping economic reforms, which are laying the groundwork for Nigeria’s global emergence.

“These include strides in agriculture, security, student loan programs, and a new national minimum wage, all aimed at making Nigeria more attractive for investment and opportunities,” he stated.

The unveiling event saw prominent figures, including Foreign Affairs Minister Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, ICPC Chairman Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, and former Ministers of Information, attending in support of this national rebranding agenda.

Idris assured that the National Orientation Agency (NOA) is also actively involved in promoting positive national values through initiatives like the National Values Charter, reinforcing the country’s reputation and fostering a culture of excellence among Nigerians.

“This new drive is poised to not only reshape global perspectives of Nigeria but also to inspire a renewed sense of national pride at home,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, Google has announced that it injected approximately $1.8 billion into Nigeria’s economy in 2023, due to economic activities generated by its diverse products and services, including Search, Play, Android, YouTube, Cloud, and Ads.

At the unveiling of a report titled The Digital Opportunity of Nigeria took place at its office in Ikoyi, Lagos, Google noted the significant economic impact that digital technologies can have on the nation if harnessed effectively.
Conducted by the global policy and strategy consultancy Public First, the report demonstrates that Google’s contributions are equivalent to supporting over 200,000 jobs annually.
