The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has taken a decisive step to ensure effective communication of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by signing Performance Bonds with heads of agencies and parastatals under his ministry.
The minister said the move is aimed at reinforcing commitment to the administration’s key initiatives and successes.
The announcement was made during a one-day retreat for Directors of the Ministry and heads of its agencies and parastatals, held in Abuja on Tuesday.
The retreat provided a platform for discussing the roles and responsibilities of the heads of the organizations in delivering the government’s message and ensuring compliance with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Since President Tinubu’s administration began, there has been a structured agenda focused on the Renewed Hope Initiative, involving all MDAs. This initiative is tracked by the Central Results Delivery and Coordinating Unit (CRDCU) in the office of the SGF,” Minister Idris stated.
He added: “This retreat is designed to clarify our responsibilities and ensure that we deliver results effectively.”
The Minister emphasized that both he and the Permanent Secretary had signed a performance bond with the President to ensure the ministry’s mandate is fulfilled.
“I intend to have the heads of parastatals sign the performance bond as well,” he added.
Idris outlined the necessity for a comprehensive understanding of the government’s efforts in various areas, including improved minimum wage, student loans, consumer credit, and support grants.
“It is crucial that we are well-informed about these initiatives so we can communicate them effectively to the public,” he said.
The retreat also highlighted the Ministry’s regulatory responsibilities and the importance of partnerships with other government organizations to communicate their mandates.
Idris encouraged open discussions to address any grey areas and ensure high-quality delivery of their mandates.
In his closing remarks, Idris extended his gratitude to Hadiza Bala Usman, Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, for her passion and visibility in the assignment, and acknowledged the commendable work of her team at the CRDCU.
Participants in the retreat included the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Dr Ngozi Onwudiwe; Directors General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Voice of Nigeria (VON), and the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN); Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Press Council, Dr Dili Ezughah; and other directors in the ministry.
