The head coach of the Super Falcons, Justin Madugu, has made it clear that his team’s only goal in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) is to win the golden trophy.

Madugu declared after the team’s thrilling semifinal win over the reigning champions, South Africa, that the nine-time African champions are totally focused on regaining their dominance on the continent.

Michelle Alozie’s late winner helped the Super Falcons defeat the courageous cup holders, Banyana Banyana of South Africa, in Tuesday’s semi-final.

“We thank God for making it to the final. I want to assure you that we are not going to relent or take our eyes off the ball. Our focus is on lifting the trophy in Rabat on Saturday,” Madugu declared as the team prepared for the final showdown.

The team’s run to the final, known as “Mission X” (aiming for their tenth title), he underlined, has been a monument to their tactical discipline and poise.

The Nigerian Super Falcons will now play the Moroccan women’s national team, the host nation, in the final on Saturday at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.

Morocco shocked Nigeria on penalties in the dramatic 2022 semi-final, which is being reenacted in this eagerly awaited showdown. Nigeria will be aiming for their record-breaking 10th WAFCON title as well as retribution.
