The senator representing Edo North senatorial district, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has been called out by some of his constituents for allegedly diverting palliatives meant for his people.
The groups are now demanding that Oshiomhole, a former governor of the state, return palliative funds meant for them that he misappropriated.
The Federal Government had allocated N3 billion in aid for the senatorial district, intended for palliative measures to alleviate economic hardship.
The women allege that Oshiomhole diverted the funds, which were meant to provide essential relief for his constituents.
”Instead of utilizing the money as intended, he is now planning to distribute rice, tomato paste, and cash in a bid to influence votes and garner political support ahead of the Edo governorship election,” one of the leaders of the women groups told journalists in Benin, the Edo state capital.
The call for accountability comes amid growing concerns the senator and his colleague in the Senate, Monday Okpebholo are hoarding the palliatives meant for their constituents and instead reserving it for APC chieftains and their loyalists.
Okpebholo, a first-term senator like Oshiomhole is the governorship candidate of the APC in the upcoming election scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2024,
”We are tired of Oshionhole’s unkept promises and his misuse of government resources since he was elected senator.
”He is only good at talking and proffering solutions on national TV, but back home, he keeps the little given to him to share to us. Please, tell him to release what is due to us. This kind of greed is not good,” the woman leader added.
Oshiomhole has not yet responded to the allegations, but sources say his media aides are embarrassed as the senator was warned to distribute the palliatives earlier.
Meanwhile, there are reports that Oshiomhole has instructed his foot soldiers in the Edo North senatorial district to withdraw their support for Okpebholo ahead of the upcoming governorship election in the state.
Sources close to Oshiomhole indicate that the former governor is deeply aggrieved by what he perceives as his marginalization within the party.
It is understood that Oshiomhole feels sidelined by Okpebholo’s alignment with Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, which has led to a rift between him and the APC governorship candidate.
