For the first time since being accused of rape, Paris Saint-Germain and Morocco player Achraf Hakimi has made public statements reaffirming his innocence and promising to clear his name.
Following a woman’s accusation of sexual assault in early 2023, the 25-year-old defender has been the subject of an investigation. Hakimi has insisted that the accusations are untrue and that the truth will come to light when French investigators conclude their work.
In an extensive interview with Bertrand Latour on Canal+ (Foot Africa) on Saturday, Hakimi was asked several questions, ranging from his prospects of winning the Ballon d’Or to the possibilities of regaining the Champions League.
Additionally, the topic of the alleged rape against him was brought up, particularly in light of the recent trial request from the prosecutor’s office in Nanterre.
“I am calm. Being falsely accused is horrible and unfair. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. I know the truth will come out,” he said.
“I have nothing to blame myself for, and those who know me are aware of that. I remain composed and focus on the important things in my life, namely family and football. As I said, the truth will come out,” Hakimi stated.
Hakimi thanked his supporters for sticking with him despite the hardship. He has continued to play for both club and country throughout the judicial process.
“I’m thankful for everyone who has sent messages of encouragement. It’s in moments like these you see who truly supports you,” he added.
