The Department of State Services (DSS) has provided more reasons for the arrest of Tukur Mamu, the bandit’s negotiator for the Abuja-Kaduna train victims.
Mamu, who was arrested at the Cairo International Airport on Tuesday, has since been handed over to the DSS on Wednesday, September 7.
Although Mamu claimed that he was on his way to Saudi Arabia for lesser hajj, sources within Nigeria’s secret police say he had scheduled some meetings with foreign terrorists in Egypt.
“I can assure you that Mamu has high linkage with terror groups in Egypt, especially in Sinai and by extension Libya, the Sahel and other parts of West Africa on this side, and the middle- east on the other side,” a source told Daily Trust.
“He has collected over N2bn in ransom for terrorists with some of the payments made in US dollars by desperate families and negotiated the release of their loved ones. We have been monitoring all his activities and evidence abounds to hold him to account,” the source added.
Similarly, DSS operatives have recovered laptops, documents, and phones from Mamu’s house in Kaduna.
The items were recovered during a raid of the property on Thursday morning.
Mamu has since denied any wrongdoing adding that he is not afraid of the DSS.
