Italian champions Napoli are reportedly preparing for a new round of negotiations with Liverpool for the acquisition of Uruguayan striker Darwin Núñez, following the imminent departure of Victor Osimhen.

The lanky Darwin Núñez is said to be giving a move to the Serie A side “total priority” and is still considered a “main, dream target” for Napoli, now managed by Antonio Conte.

Napoli has already submitted an initial bid to Premier League side Liverpool, reportedly in the region of €50 million plus €5 million in bonuses, for the 26-year-old forward.

They have also offered a wage package of €5–6 million net per season to Núñez, who is reportedly open to the move and eager to work under Napoli’s manager, Conte.

However, according to reports, Liverpool turned down this first offer, valuing Núñez at closer to €60–70 million — a significant drop from the €75 million (possibly rising to €100 million with add-ons) they paid Benfica for him in 2022.

Núñez scored seven goals in 47 appearances last season, but Liverpool is reluctant to suffer a significant loss on their investment unless their valuation is met, despite Núñez’s inconsistent performances at Anfield.

His transfer dilemma appears to be closely tied to the anticipated departure of Victor Osimhen to Galatasaray. It is expected that Napoli will have the financial resources to step up their pursuit of Núñez once Osimhen’s €75 million transfer is finalised.
