Officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a man for attempting to illicitly traffic drugs in Italy.
The suspect, Ehiarimwiam Osaromo Emmanuel, is reported to be a 53-year-old physically challenged man from Edo state.
Spokesperson of the NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, said prior to his arrest on Sunday, September 4, Emmanuel was a frequent traveller with huge luggage containing food items, drinks and so on.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspect is a frequent traveller who often travels with lots of bags containing mainly food items, body cream, hair attachment and drinks,” the NDLEA official said.
“The suspect was said to have presented his usual large consignment to NDLEA operatives for search but held on to some packages, which were retrieved from him and properly searched during which the drugs were discovered,” he added.
About 5,000 tablets of Tramadol 225mg hidden in Emmanuel’s luggage were recovered by anti-narcotics operatives of the NDLEA.
