In response to the water release from the Lagdo Dam, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) headquarters has taken proactive measures by activating its Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

The move comes as part of efforts to mitigate potential flooding and manage the impact of the dam’s water release.

NEMA Director General Mustapha Habib Ahmed addressed the public during a recent press conference, highlighting the gravity of the situation.

He identified specific states at a high risk of flooding due to the water release and urged them to take immediate action by initiating their emergency response plans.

Ahmed said the plans would be developed with relevant partners, including government agencies and humanitarian organisations.

He said the activation of the EOC underscores the seriousness of the situation and the need for coordinated efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of affected communities.

”Flooding incidents can lead to significant humanitarian challenges, including displacement, damage to property, and potential loss of life.

”Our proactive response is vital in addressing the potential consequences of the Lagdo Dam water release.

”It demonstrates our commitment to disaster preparedness and response in Nigeria.

”Residents in the identified high-risk areas must stay informed and follow guidance from local authorities and emergency services to keep safe during this critical period,” he added.
