Bashir Ahmed, a former media advisor to President Muhammadu Buhari on news media, has cautioned Nigerian megastar David Adeleke aka Davido never to repeat producing a contentious video that presents a negative image of Islam.
Mr Bashir said this via his Twitter handle on Monday.
He said this in reaction to the recent video of Logos, a signee to Davido music label, Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) who on Saturday released a trailer of his upcoming music single video.
Davido, who shared the music video titled “Jaiye Lo” via his Twitter handle on Friday, deleted it on Sunday.
The video elicited a range of responses. Many Nigerians, particularly from Northern Muslim communities across social media platforms urged the musician to remove the video because they felt it portrayed their faith negatively.
In response to the development, Mr Bashir, who praised the singer for deleting the video, also cautioned the superstar to never make the same mistake again.
“It is good to discover that Davido deleted that offensive and hurtful video. Hopefully, the entire scene will also be deleted from the actual footage before releasing it to the market, and we humbly urge that the same grave mistake should never happen again from him or anyone else. Nigeria is a beautiful country,” he said.
The former presidential aide also advised Nigerians to accept their differences seriously, even as they appreciate the beauty of living in harmony and unity.
“It is always amazing when we celebrate the beauty of living in unity and harmony while embracing our differences.
“Let’s strive to listen with empathy, understand with an open heart, and respect each other’s values and beliefs. By doing so, we create a safe space for everyone to express themselves authentically and foster an atmosphere of inclusion.
“Remember, it’s okay to disagree; it’s in these moments that we have the opportunity to learn and broaden our horizons. Let’s engage in meaningful conversations, share our stories, and find common ground, no matter how small it may seem,
“With love and respect, thank you!” He added.
