Olatunji Disu, the newly appointed Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has issued a strong warning to individuals contemplating any actions that could disrupt the peace in Nigeria’s capital.

During a news conference in Abuja marking his assumption of office, Disu emphasized his commitment to a zero-tolerance policy for crime throughout his tenure.

Disu acknowledged the existing security challenges facing the FCT and expressed his intention to build upon the foundational work laid by his predecessors.

He said he aims to maintain relative peace while significantly enhancing the overall security situation in the territory.

In his speech, Disu stated: “To those who seek to disrupt the tranquillity of the FCT, I send a clear and resolute message: my tenure will be marked by a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of crime and criminality.

“We will not waver in our commitment to safeguarding our community, ensuring that law enforcement is both effective and respectful of the rights of all citizens.”

To achieve these goals, Disu outlined several strategic initiatives, including community policing, intelligence gathering, technology integration, training and development and public engagement.

Disu underscored the importance of community involvement in policing efforts, stating: “Policing is a collective responsibility, and together, we can create a safer and more secure environment for all.”

Disu also promised to create a more secure and peaceful environment in the Nigerian capital.

Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Police Affairs, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has emphasized the Federal Government’s commitment to establishing a world-class police force that is inclusive, intelligence-led, technology-driven, and community-based.

According to her, the vision aligns with the government’s dedication to ensuring that the Nigeria Police Force fully meets its constitutional responsibilities.

She made the comment at the “Renewed Hope Police Agenda: Citizens Town Hall Engagement on Strengthening Community Policing in Nigeria,” held at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia, Abia State recently.
