The newly appointed Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has announced plans to eradicate delays in the issuance of drivers’ licences and number plates.
Speaking at a reception organized in his honour by the Alumnus of the College of Advanced Studies, Zaria, Mr Mohammed assured attendees that the FRSC is implementing measures to address these persistent issues.
Mr Mohammed acknowledged the ongoing complaints regarding delays in accessing number plates and driving licences, particularly in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“I went on a facility assessment in our FCT office today; the causes of the delay are numerous, some are internal, while others are technical and financial,” he stated.
To tackle the issues, the Corps Marshal said he has convened meetings with technical partners and supervisors to develop immediate and long-term solutions.
“I want to assure you that the number plate problems will be over, and FCT is our priority,” he stated.
In addition to addressing administrative delays, Mr Mohammed outlined the FRSC’s commitment to reducing traffic accidents and ensuring strict compliance with traffic regulations.
He appealed for public support, particularly from motorists, to enhance road safety across Nigeria.
“I have more than 36,000 staff with 600 formations nationwide, but it is a herculean task, and I need your support,” he said.
The reception, held by the Alumni Association of the College of Advanced Studies, Zaria, celebrated Mr. Mohammed’s achievements and his new role.
Kabiru Shehu, the Chairman of the Alumni Association, praised the Corps Marshal’s dedication and intelligence, which he said have been evident since his student days.
“Shehu Mohammed was known to be a brilliant, intelligent, and humble student; this is what led to his success,” he remarked.
Mr Mohammed expressed his gratitude for the recognition and solidarity from his former classmates and the association.
He pledged to uphold the trust placed in him by President Bola Tinubu and work diligently to enhance the FRSC’s operations.
“It is gratifying for me to interact with my school and classmates whom I am meeting today after many years,” Mr Mohammed said, describing his appointment as a destiny ordained by God.
The event underscored the community’s support for Mr Mohammed as he embarks on his mission to improve road safety and administrative efficiency within the FRSC.
