The Nigerian Football Association (NFF) has declared the roles of the senior (Super Eagles) and U-17 (Golden Eaglets) national teams of Nigeria vacant.
The search for new coaches to handle both teams was made known in a statement issued on the official Facebook page of the NFF on Friday, which called for interested candidates to apply for both jobs.
The NFF is looking for a new manager to take over as Super Eagles coach as Jose Peseiro’s contract expired on the final day of February, with both parties failing to reach an agreement on improved wages for the coach who led Nigeria to the AFCON 2023 final.
It was learnt that Peseiro’s representatives received an enhanced offer from the Nigerian football body. Despite this, the former Super Eagles coach wanted $120,000 in compensation, arguing that the NFF’s $50,000 monthly salary was insufficient and went against the previous offer of $80,000, which the coach thought was a fair wage.
In addition, former Super Eagles player Nduka Ugbade’s position as coach of the Nigerian under-17 national team is also up for grabs after he was sacked by the NFF.
It is currently anticipated that a horde of interested coaches, both foreign nationals as well as local strategists, will apply to the NFF for the two vacant roles.
