The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is making moves to name a new coach for the Super Eagles of Nigeria after parting ways with Portuguese tactician, Jose Peseiro.
Since Jose Peseiro’s 22-month tenure as head coach of the senior national team officially ended in February 2024, Nigeria has been without a head coach. This has forced the NFF to publish a vacancy for the position of Super Eagles head coach.
Numerous foreign and local coaches, including Sunday Oliseh, Finidi George, Daniel Amokachi, Antonio Conceicao, and Emmanuel Amuneke, are reportedly among those who have applied for the position.
However, a source has revealed that the NFF will stop at nothing to ensure that they get it by hiring a coach who will take the Super Eagles to the highest level.
“NFF wants the best for Nigerian football and will go all out to ensure that they get it by hiring only the person who will take the Super Eagles to the highest level. The World Cup qualifiers will be coming in another three months and we cannot afford to make a mistake in our choice of a coach at this point,” an impeccable source told Completesports.com on condition of anonymity.
“We want to improve on the recent good run of form by the Super Eagles and whoever gets the job must be ready to hit the ground running. So whoever gets the job must be someone who knows the enormity of the job and must have the managerial expertise and experience to handle our star-studded team.”
Recall that while Peseiro’s tenure as coach of the senior national team began with many questions, it concluded on a positive one when he guided the Super Eagles to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2024) where they lost 1-2 to Cote d’Ivoire.
