NGX Dealt with Another Blow as Trading Volume Drops 21%, Turnover Falls to N29.1bn

Trading on the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) failed to live up to expectations as key performance indicators ended in negative territory compared to Wednesday’s outcome.

News.ng reports that a total volume of 633,909,805 shares was traded and valued at N29.10 billion across 66,208 deals.

According to market data, Thursday’s performance was below what was recorded previously, as trading volume declined by 21% and turnover dropped by 24%, while deals fell by 7%. Market capitalisation stood at N126.3 trillion.

Again, Thursday’s losers outweighed the gainers, as 38 equities ended the session in the red while 32 closed in the green out of the 132 listed equities.

Among the gainers, Eterna Plc (ETERNA) topped the chart with a 10% increase to close at N38.50. Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Microfinance Bank (NPFMCRFBK) saw its share price increase by 10% to close at N7.15, while Premier Paints (PREMPAINTS) gained 9.92% to close at N13.30 per share.

Other gainers include Custodian & Allied Plc (CUSTODIAN), whose share price rose by 9.71% to close at N76.80 per share. Fortis Global Insurance (FTGINSURE) saw its shares rise by 9.68% to close the day at N1.36 per share, while Nigeria Infrastructure Debt Fund (NIDF) gained 9.19% to close at N126.00 per share.

On the losers’ side, Tripple Gee & Co. Plc (TRIPPLEG) saw its share price decline by 9.94% to close at N4.26 per share. This was followed by Multiverse Mining & Exploration Plc (MULTIVERSE), whose shares declined by 9.91% to close at N2.45 per share, while Jaiz Bank (JAIZBANK) witnessed a drop in its share price of 7.41% to close Thursday at N10.00 per share.

Meanwhile, the financial services institution Jaiz Bank recorded the highest trading volume with 137 million shares. Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (GTCO) recorded 45.5 million shares, while Access Holdings Plc traded 29.7 million shares.

Others include Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc, with a trading volume of 27.1 million shares.
