PZ Cussons Nigeria emerged as Thursday’s top performer on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), surging 10% to close at 37.95 NGN per share, up from its previous session close of 34.50 NGN.

The consumer goods manufacturer’s stellar performance caps off an impressive year for the company, with shares gaining 56.2% since the beginning of 2025, when they opened at 24.30 NGN. The stock’s recent momentum has been particularly strong, accumulating 14% gains over the past four weeks—the 18th best performance on the exchange during that period.

Broad-Based Rally Across Sectors

According to the NGX data, PZ wasn’t alone in posting strong gains on Thursday. Eterna Oil followed closely behind with a 9.9% increase, closing at 37.05 NGN per share from 33.70 NGN. The oil marketing company has delivered solid returns to shareholders this year, up 52.5% year-to-date from its January opening price of 24.30 NGN.

Champion Breweries rounded out the top three daily performers with a 9.8% gain, closing at 15.10 NGN per share. The brewery has been one of 2025’s standout success stories on the NGX, skyrocketing 296% from its opening price of 3.81 NGN—the sixth-best year-to-date performance on the exchange.

Insurance and Pharmaceutical Sectors Show Strength

The insurance sector also featured prominently among Thursday’s gainers, with AIICO Insurance rising 5.4% to close at 3.69 NGN per share. The insurer has posted exceptional returns this year, gaining 158% from its opening price of 1.43 NGN and ranking 25th in year-to-date performance.

Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals added 5.1%, closing at 6.15 NGN, though analysts noted the pharmaceutical company has lost 7% of its value over the past month despite its impressive 169% year-to-date gain from an opening price of 2.29 NGN.

Quick-service restaurant chain Tantalizers also posted gains, rising 6% to close at 2.49 NGN per share, bringing its year-to-date performance to 21.5%.

Thursday’s strong performance across multiple sectors suggests renewed investor confidence in the Nigerian equities market, with consumer goods, brewing, insurance, and energy stocks leading the charge.
