Trading activities on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) kicked off the new week on a positive note, with key market indicators showing a rise in investor participation compared to the previous session.
At the close of trading on Monday, investors exchanged 558.94 million shares valued at ₦14.07 billion across 28,922 deals.
The figures represent a 3% increase in turnover and a significant 40% surge in the number of deals compared to the previous trading day on Friday, November 28.
The market capitalisation of the NGX stood firm at ₦92 trillion, reflecting the size and resilience of the equities market despite mixed sentiment among traders.
A total of 128 listed companies participated in the day’s activities, ending with 19 gainers and 26 losers.
NCR Nigeria topped the gainers’ chart after its share price appreciated by 9.97% to close at ₦60.10 per share. It was followed closely by Sunu Assurances Nigeria, which rose 9.18%; Champion Breweries (+8.11%); and MeCure Industries (+7.58%).
On the flip side, International Breweries led the laggards’ table with a full 10% decline, closing at ₦10.35 per share. Other major losers included RT Briscoe (-9.88%), Cornerstone Insurance (-7.83%), and Daar Communications (-6.52%).
In terms of trading volume, Wema Bank dominated with 113 million shares exchanged, followed by Access Holdings with 93.9 million, Fidelity Bank with 59.9 million, and Zenith Bank with 25 million shares.
The uptick in turnover and heightened deal activity signal cautious optimism among investors as the market navigates the final trading days of the month.
