NGX Records Strong Monday Trading Session with 23% Surge in Turnover

The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) opened the week on a bullish note, posting strong gains across key performance indicators as trading activity surged at the close of the first weekday session, news.ng reports. 

According to market data, a total of 762,729,316 shares valued at ₦18.40 billion were exchanged in 55,335 deals, reflecting renewed investor appetite in the equities market. 

Compared to the previous trading session on Friday, January 30, the market recorded an 11 per cent increase in traded volume, a 23 per cent rise in turnover, and a significant 33 per cent jump in the number of deals executed.

The NGX’s total market capitalisation stood firm at ₦106.2 trillion, underscoring the bourse’s sustained resilience amid evolving macroeconomic conditions.

Market breadth, however, closed negative as 131 listed equities participated in trading, with 29 stocks recording gains against 44 decliners.

Premier Paints led the gainers’ chart with a 10 per cent appreciation in share price to close at ₦11.00 per share. Universal Insurance Company also posted a 10 per cent gain, while Daar Communications advanced by 9.93 per cent and RT Briscoe rose by 9.92 per cent, reflecting strong buying interest in mid- and small-cap counters.

On the flip side, Omatek Ventures topped the losers’ table with a 10 per cent decline to close at ₦2.70 per share. Union Homes Real Estate Investment trailed closely with a 9.96 per cent drop, followed by AXA Mansard Insurance (-9.94 per cent) and Deap Capital Management & Trust (-9.90 per cent).

In terms of activity, Tantalizers emerged as the most traded stock by volume, recording 88.5 million shares. Zenith Bank followed with 40.2 million shares, while Veritas Kapital Assurance and Universal Insurance Company posted 39.2 million and 29.3 million shares, respectively.
