The Niger State Government has announced its decision to enforce a ban on the sale and consumption of alcohol in Suleja and eight other local government areas starting from January 1, 2024.
A statement released by the board secretary, Ibrahim Muhammad Bonu, highlighted the ban’s implementation, disclosing that designated beer joints in Minna, the state capital, would receive relocation notices to shift operations beyond an eight-kilometre radius from the state post office.
The identified nine local government areas, including Suleja, fall under the initial list of prohibited zones specified by the board’s regulations.
Mr. Bonu urged all alcohol vendors to adhere strictly to the laws governing the board’s operations.
Moreover, he cautioned board personnel against engaging in illicit activities or seeking gratification from proprietors of beer parlours, emphasizing that any staff found violating regulations would face disciplinary action.
“We are reminding all vendors to strictly comply with the laws established by the board,” said Mr. Bonu.
He further underscored the board’s commitment to ensuring the rigorous enforcement of the law, specifically within the delineated local government areas, affirming the board’s dedication to upholding compliance standards.
