Nigeria has made history in the football world, becoming the first African country to produce nominees for the Ballon d’Or and Women’s Ballon d’Or awards in the same year.

The prestigious awards, which recognize the best male and female football players globally, have seen Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala emerge as contenders for the coveted titles.

Osimhen, the rising Nigerian football star who plays his trade with Napoli FC of Italy, has earned a well-deserved nomination for the Ballon d’Or.

His exceptional skills, goal-scoring prowess, and standout performances for his club and the national team have earned him a place among the world’s football elite.

On the other side of the spectrum, Oshoala, a trailblazer in women’s football, has secured a nomination for the Women’s Ballon d’Or.

Oshoala’s incredible talent, speed, and dedication to the sport have made her a role model for aspiring female footballers in Nigeria and across Africa.

Experts say her nomination signifies the growing prominence of women’s football on the global stage.

Nigerians, football enthusiasts, and sports pundits have celebrated this historic achievement, recognizing it as a testament to the nation’s footballing talent and the tremendous strides made in developing the sport at all levels.

Nigeria’s football governing body, the Nigerian Football Federation, has expressed its pride in the nominations and pledged continued support for football development.

As the football world eagerly awaits the announcement of the Ballon d’Or and Women’s Ballon d’Or winners later this year, Nigerians, Africans, and football fans around the globe will be closely watching, hoping to witness Osimhen and Oshoala make history once again by securing these prestigious awards.
