Nigeria’s Super Eagles delivered a dominant performance in Morocco on Sunday, sweeping aside Gabon 4–1 to reach the final of the African playoff round for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Victor Osimhen led the charge with a brilliant brace, while Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke added one each to cap a commanding display from a Nigerian side that looked sharp, fluid, and ruthless in the attacking third.
Gabon struggled to cope with Nigeria’s relentless pressure and quick transitions, managing only a consolation goal as the Super Eagles controlled large portions of the match.
In the second semifinal, DR Congo edged Cameroon 1–0 in a tense, hard-fought encounter, sealing their place in Sunday’s decisive final with a goal scored by Chancel Mbemba.
Nigeria will now face DR Congo in a do-or-die playoff showdown, with the winner advancing to a crucial intercontinental playoff against a South American opponent in March — the last hurdle on the road to the 2026 World Cup, to be hosted by Mexico, Canada, and the USA.
