The Nigerian Air Force [NAF] under Operation Whirl Punch has terminated a top kidnapping group leader and other terrorists in an airstrike mission carried out in Shiroro local government of Niger state.
The success of the operation was released today in Abuja by the NAF public relations officer Commodore Edward Gabkwet.
He explained that the terrorists were eliminated while in an attempt to pass through the Jikudna River which is located in the Galadima district of the town.
He said the terrorists were in transit to the Wurukuhi axis of Chikun Local Government Area of the state.
Before the airstrike, the terrorist group leader known as Yellow jambros and his colleagues were seen on thirteen motorbikes moving near the Kaduna-Niger borders.
When they arrived at Kusasu, additional bandits joined the group and went towards the river located in jikudna.
After they arrived at the river bank they boarded a big powered boat capable of conveying them to the other end of the river.
The air force public relations officer said the armed group were responsible for numerous criminal activities such as kidnappings and armed robbery in Kaduna, Niger, zamfara and Katsina states.
One of the kidnapping members known as Mohammed Sani was earlier detained by the police in the last three years, for murder of 50 people who were unable to pay ransom. The terrorist said he was working for Yellow Jambros.
He added that Yellow jambros is responsible for providing him with fake military uniforms and weapons.
