Thousands of Nigerian Navy personnel took part in a quarterly route march across various cities nationwide on Saturday, aiming to promote physical fitness, combat readiness, and camaraderie among their ranks.
The exercise, covering over 10km in each location, saw personnel from different divisions completing the course within the specified time.
The route march was conducted simultaneously in several cities, including Lagos, Port Harcourt, Calabar, Warri, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and others.
In Abuja, the event was led by the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, represented by Rear Admiral Kennedy Chukwu Ezete, the Chief of Administration.
The march commenced at the Naval Unit Parade Ground in Asokoro and went back to the popular AYA roundabout.
Speaking during the exercise, Vice Admiral Ogalla emphasized the importance of physical fitness for the effective performance of naval duties.
“The essence of this exercise is to condition our bodies to ensure that we are physically fit to carry out our functions,” he said.
Ogalla commended the personnel for their performance, noting their dedication and enthusiasm in completing the march.
He also highlighted that the exercise was designed to boost public confidence in the Navy’s strength and operational readiness.
He further stated that the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to combat readiness and physical fitness is critical to its mandate to protect the nation’s territorial waters and interests.
According to him the route march, held quarterly, is part of the Navy’s ongoing efforts to maintain the physical fitness and combat readiness of its personnel.
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has challenged Nigeria’s security chiefs to find an unequivocal resolution to the country’s multifaceted security challenges.
Speaking at a Presidential Security Briefing in Abuja, Tinubu stressed the imperative for definitive success against threats, emphasizing the need to consolidate progress in eliminating various security issues across diverse fronts.
While acknowledging the strides in countering threats, Tinubu asserted that a conclusive conclusion to these challenges remains paramount.
