Nigeria’s world record holder Tobi Amusan has bagged a Master of Arts in Leadership Studies and Sports Management at the University of Texas El Paso in the United States of America.
Amusan graduated from the same University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology.
The University of Texas at El Paso is a public institution that was founded in 1914. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 20,065 (fall 2021).
The 100-meter hurdles event is currently won by a Nigerian track and field athlete who also holds the record in all three of those competitions.
In the 100-meter hurdles, she won back-to-back Commonwealth and African championships in 2018 and 2022. Amusan was chosen the best female athlete in Africa for the year by the Confederation of African Athletics in December 2022.
She also received the Order of the Niger, a Nigerian national honour in September 2022. Amusan had a brilliant 2022, setting the world record with 12.12 and winning the world title at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon in July, then clinching the hurdles and 100m relay Gold at the Commonwealth Games a month later.
Later on, she successfully defended her Diamond Trophy and won the Diamond League for the second consecutive year. Chante Clinkscale and Ashantae Harvey of the University of Auburn were beaten by Amusan in the women’s 200-meter race, who won in 23.38 seconds and 24.46 seconds, respectively.
This was an impressive start for Amusan as she began her 2023 season. She is one of the athletes from Nigeria that has qualified for this year’s World Athletics Championship, which will be held in Budapest, Hungary.
