Huawei, a leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure has announced the winners in the Huawei ICT Competition 2023–2024 Global Final held in Shenzhen.
As per a post on the companies’ page, the competition this year was the largest offline since its inception, drawing more than 170,000 students from more than 2,000 universities and colleges spread over more than 80 nations and regions.
Huawei said it hopes to give students a healthy competition environment and a forum for idea sharing through this competition. This will improve students’ ICT knowledge and practical abilities as well as their capacity to innovate through the use of new platforms and technologies.
This year’s global final was reached by almost 160 teams, or 470 competitors from 49 different nations and regions, who advanced through national and regional contests.
On Sunday, May 26, 2024, in Shenzhen, China, four Nigerian teams won two grand awards and two first prizes in the Huawei ICT Competition 2023–2024 Global Final.
The University of Ibadan’s Rufus Olusoji Adisa, Tolani Adekunle Adisa, Chibueze Emmanuel Ibekwe, and Lawrence Chukwuemeka were the four members of the Nigerian team who took home the main award in the Computing Track category.
Another Nigerian team from the University of Ibadan took home the top honour in the Cloud Track division. Lukman Oyeniyi Abdulyekeen, Sodiq Babawale, and Temiloluwa Oloye are among the students.
In the Network Track division, two teams from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, also took home first-place awards. Knimi Bakna Musa, Kaosar Salaudeen Ahmad, Taiye Ayantola, and Oluwagbemiga Victor Ogundele were among the students in Team 1, while Justus Ilegieuno, Yusuf Olanrewaju Toye, and Jamiu Damilare Dahunsi made up Team 2.
Zhou Hong, President of Huawei’s Institute of Strategic Research, said: “To make sure everyone can truly enjoy the benefits of digitalization while such technologies are making radical progress, Huawei believes it is crucial to guarantee that digital technologies are accessible to all.”
Two Chinese and Moroccan teams took home the Green Development Award. Four teams, one each from Kenya, Malaysia, Morocco, and Uganda, received the Women in Tech Award. And two teams from the Philippines and China took home the TECH4ALL Digital Inclusion Award.
