Nigerian TV producer, actress, and chef Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, is on a journey to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon.

The historical event began on Thursday, May 11, and will end on Sunday, May 14.

It features a live-streamed show on multiple social media channels where Hilda will make over 250 recipes.

Hilda has received massive support from Nigerians, as citizens have trooped to the venue – Amore Gardens, Lekki, to wish her well.

Celebrities are also not left out. Some have been spotted at the venue, including pop legend and music executive Banky W, comedian Sidney Talker, and reality stars Elozonam Ogbolu and Seyi Awolowo.

Hilda’s mum has also visited the venue to encourage her young daughter as she aims to surpass the previous record of 87 hours, 45 minutes, and 00 seconds set by Chef Lata London in Rewa, India, in 2019.

On Twitter, ‘rooting for Hilda Baci’ has remained on the trends table for the better part of Saturday, May 13.

Ope Omole, a software engineer, wrote:

“I’m so rooting for Hilda Baci. Cooking Marathon for 4 days?! I pray God really gives her the strength she needs in this period.”

Rozay Akai, a podcaster, wrote:

“Seriously rooting for Hilda Baci to reach her goal. It’s no mean feat she’s about to accomplish. May God give her strength.”

On the first day of the cook-a-thon, Hilda prepared various local recipes, including party jollof, coconut rice, native rice, peppered fish, turkey stew, and more.

Speaking to a Nigerian magazine earlier in the year, Hilda said:

“It took me five years to be ready for this attempt. The record I selected – longest cooking marathon – had just been broken when I reached out to Guinness World Records in 2018, so they said I had to wait a couple of years first.”
