Yemisi Akintoye, the FIFA badge-wearing Nigerian elite referee, has been chosen for the 2023 African Women’s Champions League, which will take place in Cote d’Ivoire from November 5 to November 19.
After a rigorous one-week pre-tournament course, the University of Lagos degree Akintoye was one of the 12 selected referees and one of the 17 shortlisted referees throughout Africa.
Akintoye and the other referees will be present in the 2023 African Women’s Champions League, according to a statement released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Monday.
Salma Musaganda of Rwanda, the first African woman referee to officiate at the men’s World Cup, was believed to be officiating alongside Akintoye.
Akintoye received her FIFA Referee badge in 2022 and has officiated several international tournaments, including the Aisha Buhari Tournament and the WAFU Women Champion’s League.
