Nigeria’s sprint queen, Tobi Amusan, has powered her way into the final of the women’s 100m hurdles at the ongoing 2025 World Athletics Championships, keeping the nation’s medal hopes alive.
Amusan, the 2022 world champion and former world record holder, looked composed and determined as she crossed the line in her semifinal heat, securing automatic qualification for the final.
Her smooth hurdling technique and explosive finish drew cheers from scores of her fans in the stadium and from supporters across Nigeria watching closely.
With a time of 12.36 seconds (-0.2), Amusan won her individual race in Monday’s semi-finals, defeating Dutch competitor Nadine Visser, who finished second in 12.45 seconds, and Polish competitor Pia Skrzyszowska, who came in third in 12.51 seconds.
Speaking after the race, Amusan expressed her excitement but maintained focus on the bigger goal. “It feels good to be in the final again, but the work is not done. My eyes are on the medal, and I’ll give it everything,” she said.
The women’s 100 m hurdles final is expected to be one of the most competitive races of the championship, with Amusan set to face off against world-class athletes.
