Nigeria’s Meteorological Agency has issued advisories for extensive thunderstorm activity and precipitation across the country from Monday, July 21, through Wednesday, July 23, 2025.
The comprehensive three-day prediction encompasses weather patterns anticipated throughout northern, central, and southern territories, featuring different intensities of rain and thunderstorm activity.
This meteorological briefing, issued on Sunday in Abuja and distributed through the News Agency of Nigeria, anticipates combinations of overcast conditions, thunderstorms, and light to heavy rainfall during the forecast timeframe.
Monday’s early morning will bring thunderstorms accompanied by rain to sections of Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Kaduna states.
“The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted thunderstorms and rains from Monday to Wednesday across the country.
“NiMet’s weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja envisaged thunderstorms with rains on Monday during early morning hours over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, Sokoto and Kaduna states,” the NAN report read in part.
Remaining northern areas will experience clear skies interspersed with cloud formations. Afternoon and evening periods will likely produce thunderstorms with moderate precipitation in Adamawa, Taraba, Kebbi, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Katsina, Kano, Zamfara, Kaduna, and Yobe.
Central states encompassing Niger, Plateau, Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, and Benue will start Monday with cloudy conditions and potentially encounter thunderstorms and light precipitation later.
Southern regions anticipate overcast morning conditions, followed by light rainfall throughout Imo, Abia, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom during afternoon and evening hours.
Tuesday’s northern region will display clear skies with scattered clouds during morning hours, while Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Jigawa, Adamawa, Taraba, Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna should expect moderate rainfall and thunderstorms throughout the day.
Morning thunderstorms with light precipitation are probable across Plateau, Benue, and Nasarawa in central areas, with additional rainfall anticipated in Niger, the FCT, and Nasarawa during afternoon or evening periods.
Southern states will again experience cloudy mornings, with moderate rainfall expected later across Ondo, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Edo, Rivers, Cross River, Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa.
Wednesday morning will feature thunderstorms and rain in Katsina, Kano, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Taraba, with additional storm activity predicted later in Yobe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Borno, and Kebbi.
Central states, particularly FCT, Plateau, Niger, and Kwara, will have cloudy mornings and moderate rainfall during afternoon and evening timeframes.
Southern areas anticipate morning precipitation in Enugu, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom, followed by moderate to heavy rainfall throughout Ebonyi, Abia, Edo, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.
NiMet has cautioned that powerful winds may precede rainfall events and has recommended that residents implement appropriate safety measures. These include securing loose items, avoiding driving during heavy precipitation, disconnecting electrical devices during storms, and maintaining distance from tall or unstable trees.
Aviation operators have been advised to obtain location-specific weather information from NiMet for safe and effective operational planning.
