According to an update from company director Yusuf Usman, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has stepped up exploration efforts in the North, drilling four wells in the Kolmani region of Bauchi State.
Speaking at a government-citizen interactive forum hosted by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation in Kaduna, Usman said the company is currently evaluating the most suitable technology for the next phase of drilling in the Kolmani field.
“So far, the NNPC has drilled four wells in the Kolmani area of Bauchi State and is currently evaluating the appropriate technology to be deployed for the next phase of drilling operations,” Usman said.
He also emphasised the NNPC’s resolve to deepen oil and gas operations across the northern corridor.
The company is additionally constructing five Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facilities in Kogi State, he revealed. These projects form part of the federal government’s broader agenda to transition to cleaner energy sources and enhance energy access nationwide.
The Kolmani field, located between Bauchi and Gombe States, is central to the Kolmani Integrated Development Project—Nigeria’s landmark northern oil find. In May 2025, NNPC confirmed plans to resume full drilling activities at the site.
