A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Nokia Solutions, Networks Nigeria, and the Federal Government of Nigeria represented by the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Aminu Maida, and Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani.
Nokia Nigeria during the announcement said it plans to open a cutting-edge 5G/4G test lab at the Nigerian Communications Commission’s Digital Parks.
The facility will utilise the company’s most recent radio and transmission technology to provide youth with training.
Maida claims that this collaboration aligns with enhancing Nigerians’ capacities and skill sets by giving them access to the cutting-edge information and abilities needed to succeed in the rapidly changing telecom industry.
“This collaboration advances our vision to enhance the capacity and skills-set of Nigerians, by equipping them with contemporary skills and knowledge needed to adapt to the rapidly evolving telecommunications industry,” Maida said.
Speaking on the partnership, Dr Bosun Tijani stated that the elderly are also part of the target audience for the digital literacy initiative.
“The plan is that by 2030, 90% of Nigerians should be digitally literate. Digital literacy doesn’t mean that you become a technical talent; it gives you the foundation to be able to choose whether you also want to participate in the digital economy.
“There’s a need for us to ensure that as we invest in the drive, the larger part of our population is digitally literate so that we do not leave certain people behind,” he noted.
Newsng gathered that as part of the partnership, Nokia Nigeria would launch an entrepreneurial education initiative to give 200 Nigerian students—chosen from each of the nation’s six geopolitical zones—high-quality vocational training.
