NSCDC Confirms Arrest of 65-Year-Old Man for Chaining and Starving His Wife, Mohammed Baburam has been arrested by the security/defence personnels for allegedly starving alongside chaining his wife for 12 months in Yobe state.
According to the NSCDC, the suspect was arrested in the Potiskum area of the state on Wednesday after being tipped off by a citizen in the area where he and his victim live.
A preliminary investigation showed that Baburam only fed his wife once a day and that he said he did it because of his wife’s mental health issues.
NSCDC spokesman DSC Garba told the newsmen on Friday that forensic experts as well as a doctor had been deployed to the area to assess the victim’s condition. He also said that the suspect will be charged in court immediately after the investigation is done.
Pictures of the 40-year-old woman, a mother of 4, were widely circulated in the state after she went viral on social media, leading to demands for her immediate arrest.
