Obasanjo: I didn’t endorse Tinubu for 2023 presidency
SHARE

Days after their meeting, former President Olusegun Obasanjo says he has neither endorsed nor disproved the candidacy of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the 2023 presidential election.

The former president dismissed claims by some individuals that he had assured Tinubu of victory during their closed-door meeting on Wednesday, August 17, 2022.

After the meeting, some persons loyal to Tinubu issued press statements claiming that Obasanjo expressly declared his support for the former Lagos state governor.

But in a statement by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo said his discussion with Tinubu was more brotherly than political.

“Those claiming to be insiders at the meeting issuing statements on the discussion and those crediting to me statements I had not made are enemies of the visitor and are not doing the visit any good,” Obasanjo said.

“The discussion during the visit was more brotherly than political,” he announced.
